چکیده

Thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) and thermal imidization were used to prepare PI-based monoliths in sequence. The hybridized PI (PI-co-POSS) exhibit potential liquid diode application achieve oil–water separation.

Random hydrophilic-hydrophobic copolymers

We study a single statistical amphiphilic copolymer chain AB in a selective solvent (e.g. water). Two situations are considered. In the annealed case, hydrophilic (A) and hydrophobic (B) monomers are at local chemical equilibrium and both the fraction of A monomers and their location along the chain can vary, whereas in the quenched case (which is relevant to proteins), the chemical sequence al...

Hierarchically structured functional materials: Synthesis strategies for multimodal porous networks*

Hierarchically porous materials displaying multimodal pore sizes are desirable for their improved flow performance coupled with high surface areas. In the last five years, a tremendous amount of research has focused upon the synthesis and applications of hierarchically porous materials. This review aims to open up a new avenue of research in this exciting field. At first, recent progress in the...

Plasma assisted surface modification of Fe-polyimide composite films for hydrophobic applications

Considering the wide range of applications of metal–polymer composites, composite of Fe-polyimide has been obtained by plasma sputtering method, also polyimide films were treated with plasma. Comparative study of surface modification of the composite film and the polyimide film due to Fe doping and plasma treatment have been studied, using the contact angle measurement, scanning electron micros...

Modification of Hydrophilic and Hydrophobic Surfaces Using an Ionic-Complementary Peptide

Ionic-complementary peptides are novel nano-biomaterials with a variety of biomedical applications including potential biosurface engineering. This study presents evidence that a model ionic-complementary peptide EAK16-II is capable of assembling/coating on hydrophilic mica as well as hydrophobic highly ordered pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) surfaces with different nano-patterns. EAK16-II forms rand...

Thermal conductance of hydrophilic and hydrophobic interfaces.

Using time-domain thermoreflectance, we have measured the transport of thermally excited vibrational energy across planar interfaces between water and solids that have been chemically functionalized with a self-assembled monolayer (SAM). The Kapitza length--i.e., the thermal conductivity of water divided by the thermal conductance per unit area of the interface--is analogous to the "slip length...
